Troubleshooting The Cut Tool On Design Space
I was attempting to cut lines of text out of a circle to create a project. I placed three lines of text on the circle, selected the circle and attempted to use the slice tool. Nothing happened, the slice tool was not available, I could not cut the text from the circle. After some trial and error, I determined the cause of my issue was that I was trying to slice multiple lines of text at once. Keep reading to find out how I was able to complete my project, despite this limitation in Cricut Design Space.
Why is My Slice Tool Not Working in Cricut Design Space?
The Slice Tool in Cricut will not work if there are more than two items selected at a time. The Slice Tool will not work on a flattened Print then Cut Image. The Slice tool will not work on a multilayer image with more than two layers.
The Slice tool in Cricut Design Space will only work on two selections at a time. If you select more or less than two items you will not be able to use the Slice Tool in Cricut Design Space. If you have more than one items that you are trying to slice through the same shape you have a few options. You can weld the items before slicing or slice the items one at a time.
Another reason the slice tool may not be working, is that you are using a Print then cut image. I've found that when attempting to slice with a print then cut image, only portions of the image cut through the shape.
Another reason the slice tool may not be working is that you are attempting to slice with a multilayer cut image. In order to slice, you will need to weld the image. This still may not give the desired result, as welding multiple layers in the cut file can lead to a loss of definition in the final cut.

How to Slice More than one Line of Text in Cricut Design Space?
If you have text on three separate lines that you want to cut through a shape you will need to weld them together or Slice each line of text separately. I have tried simply grouping lines of text together, but the slice tool was still unavailable.
Welding Text Together to slice in Cricut Design Space
I wanted to create the text for "Dream Plan Smile" using three different types of font. So each line of text was a separate design item. When I selected Dream Plan & Smile and the Circle and attempted to use the Slice tool, it was grayed out.
In order to slice the text "Dream Plan Smile " from the circle, I need to weld the text so that it is just one item.
In order to slice the text "Dream Plan Smile " from the circle, I need to weld the text so that it is just one item. Since the text is just one item and the circle is the second item, I am able to select them and use the Slice tool.
The finished product is that the text Dream Plan Smile is sliced from the circle. The result of the slice also leave a copy of the text in the same color as the circle.
